Cleaning
your old
junky
car out... |
| |
Of the
garage
to make
room
for
the
latest
and
greatest
wheels
on the
block
can
be a
serious
hassle.
You
have
to pay
for
an advertisement,
wait
for
strangers
to call,
haggle
over
the
price
and,
assuming
you
sell
the
car,
pray
that
the
buyer
doesn't
call
back
claiming
it immediately
broke
down.
Sometimes
it's
easier
to trade
the
junky
car
in or,
as three-quarters
of a
million
Americans
do every
year,
donate
the
ol'
hunk
of junk
to charity.
Donating
has
its
advantages.
It's
simple,
since
many
charities
offer
towing
services;
it makes
you
feel
like
a real
philanthropist,
since
you're
giving
a car,
after
all,
and
not
just
writing
a check;
and
it can
generate
a tax
write-off.

Abandoned and junked cars will sit.... |
| |
along roads and in front of homes this summer because Colorado Springs police have no more room in the impound lot.
Police
have
stopped
removing
most
abandoned
junkie
cars
but
will
continue
to tow
those
that
create
a safety
hazard
or are
connected
with
criminal
cases,
Sgt.
Cari
Graves
said.
The 13-acre lot at 2725 E. Las Vegas St. has 1,200 spaces, 1,150 of which were filled Thursday. Police are reserving the rest for cars they can't turn away.
The
lot
opened
a year
ago
and
gave
the
city
three
times
the
amount
of space
it had
at the
old,
continually
crowded
lot.
It's
become
clogged
with
junkie
cars
police
normally
would
sell
at auction..
